On Saturday September 8, 2007 we went to the Baytown Special Rodeo. Donna, Courtney's speech therapist from when she was with ECI invited us to go. We had not seen Donna since Courtney's third miracle birthday when she was in the hospital for three weeks (the time the surgeon punctured her lung while attempting to place a central line). Donna and I stay in touch via e-mail. It was wonderful to see Donna (seen in the bright orange shirt) again. She was with several families with special needs children.
This was the third year of the rodeo but our first time to go. It was amazing to say the least. We had pre-registered so there was no waiting in line, we just told them Courtney's name and we were handed a free t-shirt for Courtney along with a cowboy (girl) hat, bandanna, sheriff's badge, a coupon for a stick horse and a horse ride (Kendall rode). EVERYTHING was free, snow cones, drinks, water, chocolate covered strawberries, chips, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. I think Courtney was the only medically fragile child there; however we did see lot's of children in wheelchairs. We all had a wonderful time and plan on attending again next year.
