CommentsI am so sorry for your loss. We just lost our son in December. He also has a web page on sma angels, his name is Logan Wade Martin. Your son had a beautiful smile, that is the one thing I always remember of Logan that and his funny little laugh. andrew looked very happy, and I know he and a lot of other sweet pretty babies are loving their freedom in heaven.

The lady that helps clean the house, Billie, found that quote about the butterfly a while back and wrote it out and put Conner's picture above it and framed it. So, I have that quote hanging in my bedroom by the angelboys music box you sent. Thank you for helping me and thinking of me on Mother's Day. I kept occupied with childish laughter! CommentsYour tribute to Andrew was very touching. Wendy e-mailed me the information about SMA and funding and I sent letters out this morning. When I worked for Congressman Bateman part of my job as an intern was reading letters from constituents. There wasn’t a day that went by that I didn’t read a letter that made me cry and pray for cures for all of the diseases in the world, especially those that afflict children. One of the things that I admired about Congressman Bateman was that in his office all of the letters were read and received responses. My point is that even if it's an intern that reads our letters, one more person will be educated about the disease, touched by Andrew’s memory and moved to action. CommentsIt seems such a coincidence that on this date, the 26th, I should check my emails after vacationing with family members in NC - including Laura Geissler Strange (my Great Niece, I think) and her two darling children. She didn't mention your Andrew. I only knew her son Mason was Mason Andrew. I also have an Andrew who is a loving child, only years older. I am a believer in everlasting life, and hope Andrew's family will have a constant comfort in believing that too.

You are my life, my everything, everything that I ever have been or aspire to be. You were truly the picture of pure innocence. I am surely a better person because of loving you. I'm very sad that you are not here with me, yet I know in heaven they are taking care of you better than I ever could. And I know you are also able to be free from the disease that caged you here. I haven't written there but thought I would come here to write to you. Not that many people read it so it seems a little more fitting. You know I think of you all the time. Thank you for all of the signs - especially the extra ones lately - you know right when I need them. Praise God he lets you send them to me : ) I've been to a couple of baby showers lately and I thought of you the whole time. Going out to buy the gifts was nice. I imagined I was out buying stuff for you and it made me so happy. I know you're much happier, but it's hard not to have you here with me. I miss smelling you and seeing your little smile and holding you. You were such a little sweetie. Remember when you always used to fall asleep to take your nap right at 4 o'clock so Mommy could watch Oprah?? hee,hee you were so thoughtful. our little secret right? We have lots of little secrets. I was putting together some packages tonight for some kids at the hospital. CommentsWell, here I am again. Thinking of you as I have been so much lately. I miss your innocence. Doesn't seem to be very much of it here. I'm sure you know that already. Your daddy is out traveling for the next couple days so it's just me here in the new house. We miss you here. When we left the condo we thought about you and hoped so much your spirit would follow. It was hard leaving the house you lived and died in. But deep down we knew that the location didn't matter, no matter where we went you would be there. I have often thought since moving in what it would be like if you were physically here. I imagine we would be fixing up your room, child-proofing the house, making a play area for you. Instead, we're putting all of your things in an empty room, they are boxed up and I dread going through the stuff and unpacking b/c I know it will just make me miss you more. But I know you don't want me to be sad, so I try to think excitedly about that room, the room that would have been yours, by thinking about having a brother or sister of yours, another child. That would be wonderful, perhaps one day my wish will come true. We might have one ourselves or we might ask God for an adoption if it's his will. Regardless, instead of fixing up your room, we've fixed up a little toyrom for the Toybox. Anyway, enough sadness. I love the house and although I do wish I could actually see you in here, I know you ARE here. With me every step. Thank you for that, for always seeming to come through with little signs that you're still around. YOu're the best, a little angel I'll forever cherish. Well honey, I will stop writing now and try to get some sleep before work tomorrow. Lots to do this week with finishing papers for school (hopefully that is, hee hee) and doing conference stuff. I haven't heard it in months, and when it came on the radio I knew it was from you. :o) I love you and miss you more than anything. Today was a good day and I also had a nice weekend. Your daddy made sure that I had a card from you and a little gift. How thoughtful of him. Tomorrow is work again. It's been a beautiful day and after we got back from the long trip we took a walk. CommentsThanks Kathy for checking in. It was great to meet Laurie too and we were certainly missing you! I hope to meet you at some point. You and your little Charlie have been such inspirations. I don't know what I would do if it weren't for my SMA family. I thank God for the websites and the support I've found there. I can't imagine having a baby with SMA and not having the support of others who have been through it. Like what if I would have been born at a different time and I had a baby before the internet? I think I would have felt DOUBLY isolated. Scary thought. Anyway... I am settling in after an exhausting day of work. It was especially draining today. One of my co-workers discovered that when taking one of the little boys on her caseload to the pediatrician for a physical, that practically every tooth in his mouth was black and cavity-ridden. He had never been to the dentist or had his dental needs taken care of in his 9 little years of life. Hearing of this, and some of the other things that we see, is really frustrating as a parent whose lost a child. I would give ANYTHING to have my baby here to love and care for. Why do parents have children if they don't want to take care of them? I hate it. I hate it. I hate it. It is SO UNFAIR. I can't think about it too much. ANYWAY I am very happy that tomorrow is my last day of summer class and then I have a break until the Fall. It is needed that's for sure! I am really looking forward to the time off. It will be the longest period I've had off since I began the program. Also, Booper's b-day falls during this period so I think it will be good for me to have some time just to relax. I might do something special for that day, I haven't decided yet. I am looking forward to it and then I"m not looking forward to it - it's strange. It's so hard to believe that if he were still with us that he would be THREE YEARS OLD!!! THREE!!! My precious little baby would have been three! I wish that I was actually planning his party right now and thinking of a theme and finding stuff to buy for it. THREE! I still can't get over it. I would give anything to see a glimpse of my little 3 year old angel in heaven. I will just have to envision it in my mind. Time flies in one sense but then in another sense my days seem so long without him. Alot of the families who have lost babies do special things on their birthdays. And I guess I've felt a little guilty the past two birthdays b/c I couldn't bring myself to do it. Not that I wasn't thinking of him every minute that day (well, that's pretty normal for alot of days!), but to buy a cake or to have some sort of alternate celebration just seemed too sad for me to do at the time. But this year maybe I'm ready for something like that? I don't know, I guess we'll see. Some days I feel that I've accomplished something if I can just bring myself to get out of bed! Death is hard. It's so FINAL. I think I learned to grasp the finality of it when I lost my Dad. Not having Andrew here seems so unnatural. Anywy, August is National SMA Awareness month which I have always felt is ironic since that is Andrew's b-day month. Maybe I will try to do something in his honor which is also an awareness raising activity or something? Hmmm...Ineed to get my wheels turning. I really feel like I don't do enough to help raise money for a cure. Thankfully, we have Andrew's Toybox but I'd really like to contribute more time and effort to doing fundraisers for Families of SMA, the major organization that funds research. Sometimes I am regretful that I went to grad school b/c I think of all of the time writing papers, sitting in class, etc... that could have been spent raising money for the CURE. A CURE. that would be so lovely. No worries for our future children. An article in the NY Times said that SMA is actually the closest to a cure out of all of the neurological diseases even though it is the least funded. Sad. well, i'm off to do a little tv watching a relaxing before bed. Goodnight little Booper. Just like OUR song says, I'm sending my love to you tonight on angel's wings. ;o)
CommentsHi Sweet Little Booper: Are you helping Marshall celebrate his first birthday in heaven today? Please help take care of his Mommy today. She does so much to help end this horrible disease. A friend suggested to me last night that I keep a journal of all of the times you communicate with me through "divine intervention" and through all of your "signs". It really is a good idea. I was just going back and re-reading a few of the things that I wrote earlier and it made me smile to read about all the ways you say hi to me. This can kind of serve as a journal for me I suppose since I know of only a couple of people who actually read it on a regular basis (your daddy being one of them, hee hee!). It seems to be the easiest for me b/c I am on the computer alot and I find myself sneaking to look at your pictures b/c you are just such a cutie pie! Seeing your sweet smile makes me happy. Laura came for a visit with Emma and little Mason Andrew. He is such an active boy! I'm sure you know this already, but he sleeps with a blanket that you used to use and his Mommy describes it as his "prized possession" and something that he HAS to sleep with. It warmed my heart to know that for some reason. I hope one day he will be able to understand why his middle name is Andrew. Anyway, it was a good visit. I wish I lived a little closer to them so I could see them more often. OH! Isn't it so neat about the Dixie Chicks? I need to update your Toybox website so I can "publish it" a little more. I think it's so neat and I really want to share the news. We've been able to do some neat things this year -- continuing the current activity with the conference and doing the packages for the conference. I was thinking that I should start trying to solicit toys for next year's conference now so we may be able to get some really cool stuff. There is so much I want to do with the Toybox! A friend of mine at work who has a very strong spiritual relationship with God said to me the other day "I really feel that Andrew's Toybox will be growing". It was kind of cool. Anyway, I often think about what I can do when I am not working a full-time job and working on my Masters. So much more!!! It will be fun in the future to be able to dedicate even more time to growing. I like where we are now. I hope you like the things we're doing and that you "approve". I know you must b/c at times when we had about $10 left in the Toybox checking account the next day we would go to the post office and magically a $1,000 check would be there! Anyway...I've also been thinking about someone I know who lost a baby a couple of months ago. You know who it is I'm sure --please watch over her and husband. I will pray for them! I feel really bad for her now. I wonder why babies have to die. And why kids have to suffer needlessly, not just from sickness but from other tragedies. Anyway, enough sadness. I've had a relaxing night and looking forward to going to church tomorrow b/c it's been a month or longer since I've been. Hope you are having fun whatever you are doing. CommentsHi little Booper Boy, It has been a while since I've written...since the Fall I think. I wanted to get on here and write b/c I've been feeling so yucky lately that I thought this might help. This is a horrible time of year for me. The cold wind and weather seems to automatically take me to the bad memories of your being sick and not feeling well. I hate January and I hate February even more. I can't believe next month you will have left this earth 3 years ago. I miss you so much. It is very cold and lonely without you. We just have this emptiness inside us that will not be filled until we see you again. I always miss you but I this time of year is just so painful. I hate it. I feel very lonely. I try to hide my feelings alot of the times and keep things in b/c sometimes it's too painful to share with others and I don't like to be the "party pooper". I do talk to your daddy but it's hard for him too. Sorry for all the sadness. It is just me selfishly missing you. I know you are being taken care of better than I ever could have taken care of you. Thank God. I'm trying to stay busy and be productive but it has snowed the past couple of days so there has been no work, no class, no internship....it has slowed me down alot and I am left feeling sorry for myself which is no good. I HATE that. I really do. I have so much to be thankful for, I know that. But there IS alot of sadness in this world and sometimes it's hard to deal. ugh. ANYWAY. At least I can picture my little Booper boy in heaven happily playing and safe. :o) That vision does give me a lot of strength. As a parent you want your children to be safe and happy and at least I know you ARE that. Many parents don't have that -- I should count my blessings. I think the worst thing in the world would be to be a parent and have your child kidnapped and not know what happened to him or her and be afraid for him or her not knowing if they're dead or alive. Why does my mind move toward these morbid thoughts? I think I am just weird. :o) I feel so deeply, not just for myself but for others and sometimes it's hard to carry that burdern. Sometimes I wish I didn't feel. Life sure would be alot easier. Like if I just didn't care about the clients that I work with or about starving children or sick children then I would be happier, right? I don’t know why I’m complaining b/c most of the time I end up sitting idle in my despair. I guess we have to feel pain so we know real love. Isn't that what they say? Well, I know you showed me what real love is. You were a precious miracle and I thank God every day that I was able to have you and to share your little journey. Please help our Lord watch over little Christopher. I worry about them. It really sucks being on the other side. you feel so helpless. I should get to bed and go spend some time with John. He has been working so hard tonight. He is a work-a-holic I think. Okay, this really is therapeutic. I don't know why I don't do it more often. Keep sending me your little signs. CommentsIn about 20 minutes it will be February 17, 2004 -- 3 years since you left your little body and left this Earth. I know your spirit is flying high. I hope you are enjoying yourself no matter what you are doing. It's hard to imagine. I have faith that you are happy and being taken care of by Jesus and angels but still I wonder what you do. I often think about what you would be doing if you were here. Imagine if SMA never happened to us and you were still with us on Earth, who knows what we would wake up and do tomrrow. Instead, I'm going to wake up and think of you and TRY not to dampen your joy with my tears... but I know it will happen. It seems that its happened almost every day for the past two weeks. Commentshey gina! i had no idea all this had went on til i was reading about the dixie chix thing in the alumni magazine. i want you to know how sorry i am for everything you and your husband have been through. i can only imagine how hard it would be. my little boy is now 4 and my worst fear is having him die, but at the same time i think god everyday for every minute he has let me have with him is truly a blessing, so i definitley know where you are coming from there. i also want you to know you have my greatest admiration for what you have done to further this cause. the people that provide me the most inspiration in this life are those like yourself who have been through something so devastating and pulled through it with the courage and grace to help others rather than turning cold and bitter! great job gina! my thoughts and prayers are with you!!!!!

But I wonder if you can look down anytime you want and if you still see us? We miss you so much. We can’t believe it’s been four years since you were taken away from us. It hurts. It hurts really bad. I always wonder what you would be doing if you were here. It is unbelievable that you would be about 4 ½ years old and that you would be starting kindergarten next fall. I would be the mommy of a little boy in school. I wish you were here everyday. Maybe it’s selfish but I do. I mean, I don’t want you to be here and be miserable with SMA but I DO want you here. I never thought I could feel the kind of love that I felt for you. You opened up a whole new world for me. I love you so much. I miss you so much. I hope you know that and wherever you are, I hope you are still feeling loved by us. We’re so proud of you. Booper! I can’t believe that yesterday, of all days, we get the hospital bill that says the surgery was paid for! I think it’s a miracle – I KNOW it’s a miracle. CommentsI am thinking of you tonight Andrew. It is odd how life goes on around us. Anna is going to be one in a few weeks and you were here for a mere 5 1/2 months. What an impact you had on my life - even from a distance. It is hard to believe that you would be finishing preschool and starting kindergarten this year. Your mommy and I would have shared stories of potty training and time-outs. In place of that we have shared something much deeper. You taught me so much. You really were such an angel. So sweet and so cute. Your mommy was so good at taking care of you. She was in tune and really knew what you needed. It was so special to see. I think she is a wonderful mommy. I'm not sure I ever told her that. :-) I am forever grateful for the lessons I have learned from you.
