Cookies for Ava
First Year

On Sunday, August 29, 2010 the newly established Cookies for Ava Fund had their first bake sale at Knollwood Church in Mobile, AL.  All of the proceeds were donated to FSMA, and the Alabama chapter collected a total of $700!  Ava Renee Johnson was born on February 26, 2009 to Ebony and Corneilus Johnson, and was diagnosed with SMA Type I at five months old.  One evening at the end of June, Ava was sent to the hospital when she stopped breathing.  She spent almost two months in the local children’s hospital and went through two surgeries to get a trach and g tube installed.  To celebrate her homecoming and SMA awareness month, they decided to have the bake sale in her honor to help raise funds for Families of SMA.  The family felt so supported through this whole ordeal that they wanted to give back to FSMA.
