The Angels Sang

The Angels sang when you were born but Mommy cried and wept.

I could not believe you were really mine as I watched over you while you slept.

You were my son, my first-born child, and in your eyes I saw.

The spirit of an angel-child, a wisdom beyond man;

Strength in a weakened body, Courage I could not understand.

Time has passed too swiftly, parts of the puzzle now clear.

I think you knew from the beginning my son, that you were not meant to be here.

You graced us with your presence, your smile, your joy, your scent,

You filled our hearts with a lifetime of memories, in the year before you went.

God in His infinite wisdom, has allowed your stay to be brief,

But for you I thank Him every day-for the joy outweighs the grief.

A day is coming soon, my son, when I join you forever in Heaven;

Until that day, your memories are safe; you will always be My Devon.

The Angels sang when you went Home but Mommy cried and wept.

I could not believe you were really mine as I watched over you while you slept.
