His onset was at 6 months old and was never able to stand. I also read an article about "Ellie" receiving stem cell injections who is now able to take steps where she previously couldn't even lift her legs. SMA research has come along way and I just wanted to add a story of hope for you all who have just started this journey and to see that there is a hopeful future. It may not be the easiest journey but you will touch lives by the way you embrace this challenge. You are the inspirations and don't ever give up! Added: May 21, 2010

Name: jessica From: brownsville texas E-mail: jgonzalez0315@hotmail.com	my name is Jessica lee Gonzalez and im from Brownsville Texas. i have a baby boy who is 20 months old and has SMA type 1. he has been through so much and i just wanted to let everybody out there know that parents who have SMA babies go through a lot and being a parent for these kids requires a lot of physical emotional and spiritual strenght! it has not been easy for me at all especially being 18 yrs old (i just turned 18 today). so if you know someone with SMA baby give them as much love and support as you can cause im definitely sure they need it and greatly appreciate it! thankz!
