Rebecca Run 2006

(written by my mom, Tina)

The Rebecca Run for SMA was a tremendous success, with some C$150,000+ raised on Saturday. Wonderfully organized event. Hayden was so proud to be the honouree. His image was depicted on the official race shirts. Hayden did the 1K in his chair and did so well. He was MUCH faster than last year... at speed 7 in his chair. Now that he has the control to change speeds, well... he's a mad man! Ian and I ran the 5K. We both completed the route, he faster than I of course. Not my best run. I incorporated more walking breaks than I would have liked... The weather was killer hot and humid. Our times were approx. 29 and 34 minutes respectively. We did it! We had a tremendous team of almost 40 people: "Hayden's Heroes". As I ran, I saw many of the children I know of from SMA Suppport in photos along the honour route. I ran with all of these children in my heart. Angel Kaydence's mom and aunt came up from Dayton, Ohio, with the Angel Quilt they have been assembling. With some 142 squares for children who have passed away from SMA, this quilt is a beautiful way to honour the warriors who have lost their battle against SMA.

Some of you walked, some of you ran, some of you came out to support and many of you supported us in spirit from near and faraway places. We are honoured to have such amazing family and friends. Thank you!
