Meet The Kids
Aschdon is considered to be a weak type two, he doesn’t crawl, bear weight, roll. He does sit when we sit
him in that position, he has not lost his swallow but he recently had a mic-key button feeding tube placed
because he doesn’t eat much and he is so darn skinny. Aschdon never liked the rice milk at all even when we
added chocolate so that is why we went with the soy chocolate milk as he needed to drink something and that
was better than milk.
Meghan- I am a 21-year-old college student, living on my own with type III Spinal Muscular Atrophy. I know many of you who post are parents or family members of those with SMA. I was originally diagnosed at age 4 (muscle biopsy), after two years of massive amounts of failed testing, with type I (Werdnig Hoffman) SMA. I was later rediagnosed correctly with type III. I was able to walk until I was 16. I've lived with SMA for as long as I can remember, and I also attended MDA camp for 13 years.
