What Treatments Are Available?

No two patients are alike in their swallowing problem. Each patient must have an individual treatment plan developed for him or her after careful, detailed evaluation of swallowing.

There is a wide range of treatments for swallowing problems. Some treatments are as simple as changing the patient's head or body position when they swallow, or changing the kinds of foods the patient eats. Others involve the patient's learning new ways to swallow. Some procedures exercise muscles which are not working properly.
